Pole dance studios in Portugal

2 places

Pole dance left the clubs and moved into the gyms: today it is a fitness and dance discipline with schools in every major city, competitions and certified teachers. The schools in this guide teach pole fitness, exotic pole (in high heels), aerial hoop and flexibility, at every level, for adults.

It is here because it is part of nightlife culture, but it is sport: classes by day and night, training clothes, and nobody needs to know how to dance to start.

The classes

A beginner class lasts an hour, in small groups, with one pole per person or per pair. You learn to climb, spin and the first figures. Pole fitness builds strength and flexibility; exotic pole adds choreography, high heels and knee pads; aerial hoop uses the suspended ring. Many schools also run chair dance, heels and stretching classes.

Prices

A trial class costs 5 to 15 euros. Monthly plans run 40 to 90 euros for one or two classes a week; drop-in classes 12 to 20 euros. Workshops with guest teachers are priced separately.

What to wear

Shorts and a top: skin is what grips the pole. No body lotion on class day. Barefoot for fitness classes; platform heels for exotic classes, which the school lends at first.
