Fetish and BDSM in Portugal: parties, clubs, dress code and consent

Portugal's fetish scene is small, organised and run on very clear rules. It has a monthly party in Lisbon, an annual gathering in September, two BDSM spaces with sessions and workshops, an association and rope education projects in Porto and Lisbon. This article explains how to get into it without embarrassing yourself.

What exists

  • Hard, Lisbon's monthly gay fetish party, on the first Saturday of each month, by Gear Club Portugal at Bar Cru.
  • Lisbon Meets Fetish, the annual gathering, in September, with pre-parties, dinners and playgrounds; the 2026 edition is 25 to 27 September.
  • Lisbon Dungeon and Mise en Scène, BDSM spaces in Lisbon with sessions, workshops and rental.
  • DRAKO Club, a bar with themed nights.
  • KNOTY, a shibari and rope education project, with workshops and jams in Porto and Lisbon.
  • Gear Club Portugal, the male fetish scene's association.

All with a public address or a venue announced per edition. See the fetish page.

The dress code

Fetish parties have a dress code at the door: leather, latex, rubber, uniform, sportswear, underwear, harness. Without it you do not get in, even paying. The aim is not to exclude; it is to make sure everyone who enters knows where they are. For a first time, black underwear or sportswear is enough.

Consent

It is the rule for everything. Ask before touching, negotiate before any scene, agree a safeword, respect a no without explanations. Parties have security staff and reference people you can turn to. Anyone who does not respect this is thrown out and does not come back.

Learning

You do not start with the parties; you start with the workshops. KNOTY teaches rope from scratch; Lisbon Dungeon and Mise en Scène run introductions to BDSM and sessions with professionals who explain the rules, safety and aftercare. The Portuguese online community (The Whole, private groups) is the place to ask questions before showing up.

What is legal

Everything that happens between consenting adults, in private or licensed spaces, is legal. What is not: involving minors, filming without consent, and profiting from someone else's prostitution. Fetish parties do not sell sexual services; nobody is paid to be there.
