Liberal and gay saunas in Portugal

1 places

The saunas in this guide are adult leisure venues: dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, rest areas, cabins, maze and bar. Some are men only, others are mixed and open to couples and women on set days. They are in Lisbon, Porto and Setúbal, almost all in the city centre.

They are licensed businesses with paid entry. Nudity is normal inside, with a towel; whatever happens between adults is consensual and no sauna sells services.

How it works

You pay on arrival and get a towel, a locker and, in the larger ones, slippers. Clothes stay in the locker. Inside, you move around in a towel. There are quiet zones and social zones; the bar serves drinks and sometimes light food.

Gay saunas are the majority. Mixed and liberal saunas open to couples and women at set times or days, and some run themed nights. Hours are long: many open at midday and close in the small hours, and some stay open 24 hours at weekends.

Prices

Entry runs from 12 to 25 euros, with discounts for members, under-25s or at certain hours. Drinks are extra.

Etiquette

Shower before the wet areas, keep your towel with you, respect anyone who says no. Phones are banned in the common areas. If in doubt, ask at reception: staff are used to explaining the rules to first-timers.
